Around twenty volunteers from Montara Dog Walkers, the Coastside Horse Council, Montara Mountain Chain and Sprocket Society and The Montara Beach Coalition joined State Park Rangers to work on various trail maintenance projects this Saturday morning for the first of the rejuvenated ‘Montara Mountain Trail Volunteer Day” meets. After rallying the wife to get up at 7.30 a.m. we walked across the open space to the meeting point by the Martini Creek Bridge. An enthusiastic crowd was gathering ready to get to work. With the crippling State Park budget cuts, and the looming threat of more to come, these volunteers days are more important than ever to assist State Parks in projects and maintenance tasks that they would otherwise may not be able to perform. Among the projects we undertook today were, erecting a Park Information kiosk that when finished will display a park map and other facts of interest including public notices etc., more trail information and direction signs were erected and a section of fencing on the Martini Creek Bridge was identified for a future project, other tasks performed were clearing the trail of tree debris and fallen leaves.

If you are interested in giving a few hours of your time to help the group help the State Parks the plan is to hold a Montara Mountain Trail Day  very month, probably on the first Saturday. Please email Gary at poteenspa@gmail.com for answers to any questions you may have and more information.
